As of now, India have five Mega CIties with a population of over 10 million. By 2030, Hyderabad and Ahmedabad will join the elite club to increase the count to seven.

Delhi continues to be 2nd Most Populous City in the World till 2030. Around 9.6 million people will be added to its population by then. Mumbai, Kolkata, Bengaluru and Chennai are among the Top 5 Mega Cities.  

According to 2016 World Cities Report, 500 million people (6.8% of World Population) live in 31 Mega Cities. The count of Mega Cities will go up to 41 by 2030 and population will be around 730 million (8.7% of World Population). While 54% of the world population lives in Urban, This will rise to 60% by 2030. Developing countries in Asia and Africa were the major contributors of Urban population. 33 out of the 41 Mega Cities by 2030 will be from the third world.

55 out of 1,063 cities with population over 5 lakh have shown a decline since 2000. Most of them were located in Europe and Japan
