The new rule on withdrawing provident fund set by Government made thousands of garment factory workers angry in Bengaluru. They came out protesting in wild way by throwing stones at police station and burned several public vehicles creating big chaos.

The protest was led by none and workers went out of control and blocked highway traffic which led to huge traffic jams in city. Police were finally able to bring the mobs under control after using tear gas and firing in air. The protests led to attacks at Jalahalli cross, electronic city, Bannerghatta and also at Hosur road highway.

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley brought a plan proposal that doesnot allow employees to withdraw employers share in Employee provident fund until they were at their age of 58 years, though they can withdraw their own share deposit at any time. -

Though the notification was issued on 1st of April mentioning that the rule will be implemented from May 1st and April 30th as last day to submit PF applications, this miscommunication to workers reflected in protests fearing they could not get money after the announced last date. The rule has been cancelled now. -
