Hyderabad, Nov 11: All India Malis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) has decided to withdraw support to the Congress government headed by Kiran Kumar Reddy in Andhra Pradesh. The party president and Parliament Member Asaduddin Owaisi has also announced on Monday that the party has decided to withdraw support to the UPA government at the Centre.

Addressing media after a meeting of his party's politburo here, he said the reason for the decision was Kiran Kumar Reddy government's support to the Sangh Parivar and help to BJP to strengthen itself in and around Hyderabad. He has alleged that the Congress government was 'licking the feet' of Sangh Parivar and harassing the Muslim community. He said he has already faxed a letter to the President of India, and meet him latter. He said he was also writing to the governor about withdrawal of support to the state government. When asked if his party would support a no-confidence motion against the government, he said that was not his party's priority now. The priority was to make the government come down and amend its follies.

Owaisi said Muslims in the state started facing troubles after Dr. Y S Rajasekhara Reddy died and K Rosaiah took over as the Chief Minister. He said he did not think that the government of Kiran Kumar Reddy was secular. If Kiran was thinking that no one was observing him like the proverbial cat closing its eyes while drinking milk he was wrong. He said people were observing his actions.

Claiming that MIM and Muslim voters have played a key role in bringing Congress to power 2004 and 2009 elections, Owaisi has said during the past 3 years there were raids on Muslims in Siddipet, Miryalaguda, Sangareddy and Adoni. Instead of doing justice to the victims, he said Kiran government has arrested innocent Muslims. In Sangareddy, though it was a common knowledge that the local MLA was responsible for the communal riots, Muslim youth were targeted. He said none involved in the riots was arrested because the riots were organized by the local MLA.

Owaisi said even in cases like Sabji Mandi, Madannapet riots and the latest incidents concerning the extension of Bhagya Lakshmi temple abutting the historic Charminar, Kiran government chose to side with the Sangh Parivar. He has charged the government of disconnecting the telephones of MIM MLAs apart from arresting them unnecessarily. He has also charged that all the local Urdu TV cable connections were snapped to block his press conference. He has thanked the Telugu TV channels for telecasting his press conference live.

Owaisi said in several parts of the state, particularly in Srikakulam, cattle meant for sacrifice on the occasion of Bakrid were seized by the authorities at the instance of Sangh Parivar.

He said though he has about harassment of Muslims to the Chief Minister several times,  he has not responded.

When asked if he would now ally with the YSR Congress chief Y S Jaganmohan Reddy, Owaisi has admitted that Jagan was his friend. He has also said that Kiran was also once his good friend. He said he has however chosen to act this way.
