The TV premiere of National Award-winning film 'The Dirty Picture' has been stalled by the government on Sunday, despite undergoing 36 voluntary and 26 compulsory cuts and acquiring an U/A certificate from the Censor Board. Actually, the film was scheduled to be aired at afternoon and 8 pm in Sony TV. But the Information and Broadcasting ministry stopped the screening by asking channel to skip the prime time and air the film after 11 pm. Producer Ekta Kapoor, who is upset over stalling the screening, expressed her anger on the social networking site. "We can show rape, an 8-year old's marriage to 40 year old, we can show reality/comedy shows with vulgar content but we can't show a liberal womans story who lived life on her own terms-truly this is our nations DIRTY PICTURE!," she wrote. The Dirty Picture is based on the story of southern siren Silk Smitha. The film which was being made on a moderate budget of Rs 8 crore went on to collect over Rs 100 crore at the Box Office. It also bagged three National Awards and the film's lead star Vidya Balan won the National Award for Best Actress. Surpisingly, a National Award film is not permitted a national telecast!
