Each year, Telugu filmmakers and film buffs find themselves disappointed with not a single Telugu film being awarded at the national awards, often including the Best Regional Language film. But in a huge matter of pride for all the Telugu film lovers, SS Rajamouli's Baahubali The Beginning has been declared the Best Feature Film at the just announced National Awards.

In the history of 63 years of National Awards, this is the first time that a Telugu film is chosen for the top honour. Baahubali The Beginning was made on a budget of 150 crores and the film grossed nearly 580 crores in its box-office run.

The film has won a lot of critical acclaim at several international festivals too. The film has also been a strong contender for Best cinematography, art direction and costumes and of course Visual effects, and ended up bagging the much deserved Best Visual Effects Award as well.

The Best Actor award went to Amitabh Bachchan for his endearing performance in Piku, while Kangana Ranaut, who won the Best Actress award a couple years ago for Queen, has once again been adjudged Best Actress for Tanu Weds Manu Returns and Sanjay Leela Bhansali has been declared Best Director for Bajirao Mastani.
