sexually assaulted by her own father in west Delhi, police said

The girl filed a complaint four days ago that she was raped by her father, Ramashre, around three months ago when she was alone at home.
"She was sexually assaulted by the accused several times. Four days ago she reported the incident to one of her neighbours, who approached the Crime Against Women (CAW) cell along with the victim, and a case was registered," said a police official.
The girl could not muster courage to tell anyone as the accused had threatened her of dire consequences.
The victim was taken to a government hospital for medical examination where doctors confirmed rape, police said.
A hunt is on to nab the accused who is absconding.

May 14: A man from Bihar was killed and another was battling for life
Monday after being thrown out of a train in Gujarat when they resisted
an attempt to snatch their mobile phones.
Police
said Rajiv Kumar died and Rakesh Mahto was warded in a hospital in
Nadiad town following the ghastly attack in Kheda district Sunday.
They were travelling on Mysore Express after writing an exam in Ahmedabad when a gang confronted them.
This led to a scuffle, after which they were pushed out of the moving train between Ahmedabad and Nadiad railway stations.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (Railways) S.S. Baranda told that police were hunting for the gang members.
"We came to know about the ghastly incident only after Rakesh spoke to us after recovering consciousness."
Earlier, police had registered a case of accidental death after finding the body of Rajiv Kumar near the tracks.

May 22: A 47-year-old Bengali Muslim woman arranged for her teenaged
daughter's boyfriend to be battered to death after he posted topless
pictures of the girl on the internet, a British court has heard.

Bibi - a resident of London - lured 21-year-old hospital worker Sumon
Miah to her home after she saw the naked photos of her 13-year-old
daughter.
Once
Miah reached there, he was hit on the head with a table leg. He went
into coma from which he never recovered. Miah died nine days later from
brain damage in October 2006, the Daily Mail reported.
Bibi then got her teenaged daughter to tell police she had hit the victim in self- defence after he turned up with a knife.
Police shut down the case in 2008 but fresh information emerged in 2010 which led to Bibi being charged with murder.
At
the trial at the Old Bailey, Bibi was cleared of murder but convicted
of manslaughter and perverting the course of justice. She would be
sentenced later.
Hyderabad, Ma 22: Mangali Krishna who was charged with selling weapons to Bhanu Kiran, the alleged murderer of Rayalaseema factionist Maddelacheruvu Suri was arrested by the police here on Tuesday.
It may be recalled that there was an uproar when Bhanu Kiran has reportedly told the police that it was Mangali Krishna who supplied guns to him, as Krishna was a known associate of the YSR Congress chief Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy.

York, May 11: US prosecutors have asked a New Jersey court to sentence
convicted Indian American student Dharun Ravi to prison for bias
intimidation in a webcam spying case, but not the maximum of ten years.
Former
New Jersey state Rutgers University student Ravi's March convictions
for live-streaming his gay college roommate Tyler Clementi kissing a man
and hindering the criminal investigation warrant jail time, prosecutors
argued Thursday.
Days after the incident Clementi jumped to his death off the George Washington Bridge on Sep 22, 2010.
However,
first assistant Middlesex county prosecutor Julia L. McClure said in a
14-page memo and a supporting document, neither her office nor the
families of the victims suggest that the maximum 10-year sentence should
be imposed.
Ravi "has failed to accept any degree of
responsibility for the numerous criminal acts he committed," McClure
wrote, "and shows no remorse for same, despite significant evidence
pointing directly at him."
She noted that he rejected two
plea deals prior to his trial, including one that would have resulted in
600 hours of community service instead of prison, plus mandatory
counselling associated with cyber-bullying.
Ravi is
scheduled to be sentenced by Judge Glenn Berman on May 21 for invasion
of privacy, bias intimidation, tampering with evidence, and hindering
apprehension.
Ravi, who came to the United States with his
parents from India as a 3-year-old, also faces possible deportation.
McClure noted in her memo that when proposing the plea deals, her office
also promised to assist Ravi in avoiding deportation.
"The
defendant rejected the state's plea offer and made no counteroffer,"
she wrote, noting that he opted instead for a jury trial. The outcome of
that trial warrants a jail term, she said.

Dhabi, May 19: A 27-year-old woman from India's Kerala state allegedly
committed suicide by hanging herself in Al Ain city in Abu Dhabi.
Meera
Mohan, from Kottayam, was living with her 20-year-old brother Midhun
Mohan, and her six-year-old daughter Pavithra. She was working as a
receptionist in a private company and has been living in the United Arab
Emirates (UAE) for the past five years, the Gulf News reported.
Pavithra is a Grade two student at the Al Ain Indian High School. Meera's ex-husband stays in India.
The
woman sent her daughter and brother to buy groceries. When the pair
returned 20 minutes later, they had to get police to help them break
into their home and were shocked to find the woman dead in the bathroom.
"Meera
was the sole breadwinner of the family. She took care of the entire
family including her parents back in India," a close friend of hers
said.
"A
few months ago, she brought her brother here on a job. But he was not
happy and was planning to fly back to India on May 19 to come back on a
different job visa."
Her daughter is now under the care of family friends. She still believes her mother is alive.
Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy has expressed shock and anguish over the ghastly train accident when Hampi Express rammed into a goods train near Penukonda in Anantapur district in the early hours of Tuesday. The Chief Minister directed the district Collector, Superintendent of Police and others to rush to the spot and take up relief and rescue measures and provide medical assistance. He also extended condolences to the bereaved family members.
On the directions of the Chief Minister, Chief Secretary Pankaj Dwivedi spoke to the Anantapur Collector and directed to initiate speedy rescue and relief operations. The Chief Secretary and others are closely monitoring the situation and are in constant touch with the Railway officials and the district administration.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister left for Tirupati by 12.40 pm flight on Tuesday. From there, he will go to Penugonda train accident site. After monitoring the rescue and relief operations at the accident site, he will console the injured at Puttaparthi Hospital. The Chief Minister will also review the accident and the latest situation with Railway and State Officials.
The Chief Minister will reach Kalikiri in Chittoor district for night halt. On Wednesday morning, the Chief Minister will reach Tirupathi and participate in the locally arranged programs before leaving for Hyderabad by the evening.
YSR Congress president and Kadapa MP Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy today made sensational remarks alleging that a stage was set for his arrest in three days.
Addressing an election meeting in Jammalamadaka under Macherla Assembly constituency in Guntur district, Jagan Mohan Reddy startled the audience saying that arrangements were being made to arrest him in three days. Expressing disgust over the “attitude of Central leaders”, the Kadapa MP alleged that Delhi Congress high priests, Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, Director General of Police V Dinesh Reddy, Governor ESL Narasimhan and TDP president Nara Chandrababu Naidu held discussions about his arrest and the aftermath. He alleged that the Congress and TDP leaders held secret talks with the CBI officials, and conspired to get him arrested, create violence in the state and to put the blame on him for the destructive activities.
Knowing that their candidates would loosed the deposits in the 18 Assembly segments, the TDP and Congress leaders were also trying to stall the by-elections, he alleged.
Mumbai, May 22: The Indian rupee Tuesday slipped to 55.47 against a dollar, hitting a fresh record low for the fifth session in a row, due to increased demand for the American currency from oil firms and weak cues from global markets.
The Indian currency hit a record low of 55.47 against a dollar before closing at 55.40 at the Interbank Foreign Exchange Market here.
The rupee had hit a low of 55.05 against a dollar in the intra-day trade Monday and closed at 55.03.
Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee said the fall was largely due to the uncertainty in Eurozone and the government was taking steps to curb the slide.
"The government is taking a series of steps. However, managing rupee is market-related. There is a lot of volatility," Mukherjee told reporters.
The Indian currency has lost over 20 percent of its value against dollar since the beginning of this year.
Mukherjee said the Reserve Bank of India will intervene in the foreign exchange markets as and when required.
In the last few weeks the RBI has announced some steps to control the slide in the value of Indian currency.
The RBI has asked banks to sell half of the foreign currencies in their accounts. In a bid to attract money from overseas, the RBI has raised interest ceiling that local banks can offer to overseas Indians in forex accounts.
The RBI has opened a direct dollar window for oil companies, which are worst hit because of the weakness in the domestic currency as they have to pay higher money for the same quantum of import.
Earlier in a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha, the finance minister said the government has taken a number of steps to "augment supply of foreign exchange to step stem rupee decline".
The government's steps include liberalisation of External Commercial Borrowings policy and portfolio investment norms, steps to improve access to corporate bond market through infrastructure debt funds and the RBI's initiatives to curb speculation in the forex markets.
Sydney, May 21: Australia's largest airline Qantas Airways announced Monday that it would cut 500 jobs following a review of its heavy aircraft maintenance and engineering operations.
The airline said it would consolidate heavy maintenance work into Brisbane in Queensland and Victoria's Avalon, Xinhua reported.
Qantas said the restructure was necessary as there was not enough heavy maintenance work required for three separate facilities and the introduction of new technology and modern aircraft would lead to a further 60 percent reduction in heavy maintenance requirements over the next seven years.
As a result of the restructure, heavy maintenance on Boeing 737 aircraft will move from its base at Tullamarine in Melbourne and be maintained in Brisbane along with B767 aircraft and Airbus A330s, the airline said.
The base at Avalon will continue to maintain Boeing 747s.
"There will be a net reduction of 500 positions as a result of the restructure," Qantas said in a statement Monday.
The airline said 422 jobs would go from its Tullamarine and 113 positions would be axed at Avalon.
But 30 new line maintenance jobs will be created in Melbourne and five in Sydney, Qantas said.
The airline said consolidating heavy maintenance and other engineering initiatives would save the company up to $AU 100 million ($US 98.54 million) annually.
One-off costs associated with the restructure will be about $AU 50 million ($US 49.27 million).
Qantas Chief Executive Officer Alan Joyce said the airline was working with the Victorian government to help employees affected with future employment opportunities.
"Dozens of companies in mining and resources, engineering and manufacturing who are looking for highly skilled workers have contacted Qantas seeking to make contact with affected workers," he said in the statement.

New Delhi, May 21: Four days after an American woman alleged she was molested by Australian cricketer Luke Pomersbach, playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL), the case took a new turn Monday with the cricketer telling the police that he inadvertently touched the victim as he was under the influence of alcohol, police sources said.
A police officer claimed that Pomersbach, who plays for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the IPL, has confessed that he was under the influence of alcohol and inadvertently touched the victim.
According to the officer, the name of another IPL cricketer belonging to the RCB team K.P. Appanna has also cropped up in the case as he was found accompanying Pomersbach to the room of the victim.
"Appanna's name came to light after he was seen in CCTV footage recovered from Maurya Sheraton hotel where the American woman was molested during a party," said the officer.
Police spoke to Appanna, a leg spinner who plays for Karnataka in Ranji Trophy. But the cops have not formally questioned him yet, said the officer.
The officer informed that they were yet to ascertain whether Appanna entered the room where the victim was staying.
Pomersbach was arrested Friday after the victim Zohail Hamid alleged that he molested her and hit her fiance Sahil Peerzada when he objected to the cricketer's behaviour. Peerzada was punched in his ear following which he had to undergo a surgery.
The official said that Peerzada, who is a friend of RCB owner Siddhartha Mallya, was invited to the post-match party at the hotel.
At the time of the incident, Peerzada was present along with his fiancee, his friends Moiz and Miraj, and Pomersbach.
Pomersbach misbehaved with Hameed in the party.
"When she left the party along with Peerzada, she was followed by Pomersbach and Appanna after a few minutes," said the official.
Appanna had come to ask whether Mallya was there in the room, the official said, adding Zohail had also corroborated this.
The official informed that they had recorded Moiz's statement too.
Zohail had alleged in her complaint to police Friday that five to six members of the IPL team had pressurised her to withdraw the case against Pomersbach.
Police is not ruling out the possibility that she was pressurised to withdraw the complaint against Pomersbach.

India will soon file a case in the WTO against visa fee hike by the US, complaining that Indian IT companies face discrimination in regard to their employees who are on short-term contracts in America.
"We have finalised our case. The US visa fee hike is a discriminatory move against Indian IT firms. This week, we will formally file the complaint and seek consultations under WTO," a senior Commerce and Industry Ministry official said.
As per the procedure of World Trade Organisation (WTO), consultation is the first stage of a complaint filed with the global trade body.
The US had raised visa fee in 2010 to fund its enhanced costs on securing border with Mexico under the Border Security Act. Since then, India has been protesting against the measure.
Consultations give parties to the dispute an opportunity to discuss and resolve the issue without proceeding further with litigation. After 60 days, if consultations fail, the complainant may request adjudication by the Dispute Settlement Body (DSB).
The law – Emergency Border Security Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2010 – has substantially increased the fees for H1B and L1 categories of visas for applicants which employ more than 50 persons in the US or have more than 50 per cent their employees admitted on non-immigrant visas (the
50:50 rule).
"... This is prima facie discriminatory for Indian companies," an official said.
The H1B visa fee has been increased significantly to USD 2,000 and L1 to USD 2,700.
Some of the top Indian companies TCS, Infosys, Wipro and Mahindra Satyam were affected by the US action on visa fee. The US is the largest market for the Indian software exports.
However, the large American high-tech corporations which may bring higher numbers of skilled immigrants into the US would not be affected, since vast majority of their workforce is of Americans.

Vijayawada MP Lagadapati Rajagopal has taken on YSR Congress party president and Kadapa MP Jaganmohan Reddy yet another time. Comparing Jagan’s irregularities to the convict Bangaru Lakshman, Lagadapati questioned as to how many decades of punishment should Jagan face when Bangaru Lakshman got four year term for accepting one lakh rupees.
Rajagopal has said that Jaganmohan Reddy would be arrested soon and appealed to the public not to melt in case the family members of Jagan move in public and cry over Jagan’s arrest.
Lagadapati, who was touring West Godavari district, as a part of his election campaign spoke to the media last night. He has said that those who followed the foot steps of Jagan and invested in his companies were behind the bars and Jagan was happily campaigning for by-polls.

Andhra Pradesh government today transferred nine Indian Police Service officers, including the controversial Director General of state Anti-Corruption Bureau D Boobathi Babu and Hyderabad Police Commissioner A K Khan.
Of these, three have been promoted to the rank of Director General of Police and one of them has been retained in the same position.
IPS officer of 1979-batch B Prasada Rao, currently the vice-chairman and managing director of AP State Road Transport Corporation, has been promoted to the rank of DGP and posted as Director General of ACB, relieving incumbent Boobathi Babu 'from the additional charge,' a Government Order issued by state Chief Secretary Pankaj Dwivedi said. Babu, however, has not been given any new charge.
A K Khan of 1981 batch, currently Hyderabad Commissioner of Police, has been transferred and posted as Vice Chairman and managing director of APSRTC.
Khan's batchmate Anurag Sharma, who has been holding additional charge of Hyderabad CP's post for over a month now, has now been given the regular charge.

Rann was decent as well. He went horribly wrong with the sequel to that film and of course, Not a Love Story. Department seemed promising because of its impressive cast and RGV has a grip over the crime/gangster genre. Sadly, Department is a monstrous disappointment. RGV is obsessed with crotches and the female anatomy as is amply evident in the gross item song featuring hottie Nathalia Pinheiro Kaur. He is also fascinated by weird cinematographic angles and dark tones which make watching Department rather difficult. The viewer has a migraine and distorted vision by the end of this movie! The story is nothing new and nothing much. We have seen special cops operating against the mafia in secret/higher operations in too many movies. Some examples are Kahaani, Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai, Ab Tak Chhappan, Jannat 2, and international films like The Departed. So this movie is about the department of cops played by Sanjay Dutt and Rana Daggubati who want to wipe out the crime scene in Mumbai. Vijay Raaz plays the prime gangster and Amitabh Bachchan plays a gangster-turned-politician. There is ample sleaze in the movie which also adds to the painful experience. The action and violence is too much to tolerate. The music is bad and the dialogues make you cringe. There is a lot of nonsense and no sense of reality in the movie. You really wonder how RGV can outdo himself in making unwatchable movies! Sanjay Dutt looks haggard and has his usual “I give a damn” swagger. So he does nothing new. Rana Daggubati looks good but that is about it. The characters do not have soul. You don’t care for them. Vijay Raaz is erroneously cast as the gangster and Abhimanyu Singh and Madhu Shalini as his allies are plain terrible. Abhimanyu Singh needs to do something new. Anjana Sukhani is, surprisingly, a breath of fresh air in a suffocating film. Lakshmi Manchu is a delight to watch. Amitabh Bachchan sportingly plays his character but one does wonder what made him sign this movie. He makes the movie a tad tolerable in a few scenes. At two-and-a-half hours, this is unbearably long and you feel like walking out several times during the movie. By now it is clear that Department doesn’t merit a watch ever! I have run out of words to criticize it further. For Department my review rating is 1 out of 5 stars.

Composer Devi Sri Prasad, who is on a high after the stupendous success of 'Gabbar Singh' audio is teaming up with Bunny after chartbusters such as 'Arya', 'Bunny' and 'Arya 2'. The Trivikram directorial has wrapped up its talkie part sometime ago and at present a song is being filmed on the lead pair at Ramoji Film City in a specially erected set. The film is about a reckless youth (Allu Arjun) who just seeks enjoyment by not believing in work. He splurges money earned by the rest of his family on his comforts. However, things take a u turn for him when a beautiful girl played by Ileana falls for him. An out and out Trivikram marked entertainer, the film produced by Radhakrishna under Harika Hasini creations also sees Natakeeriti Dr Rajendra Prasad playing a significant role. Actor Sonu Sood after a brief gap in Telugu is portraying a role on par with that of Allu Arjun. 'Julayi' will hit the marquee in June.

: The Central Bureau of Investigation on Friday grilled Home Minister P Sabita Indra Reddy in connection with disproportionate assets case of YSR Congress party president Jagan Mohan Reddy. According to sources, the CBI officials questioned Sabitha at her residence for more than three hours about the permissions and licenses granted to certain cement companies, which allegedly made investments into the companies owned by Jagan under quid pro quo arrangement. Sabita Indra Reddy was the Minister for Mines and Geology in Y S Rajasekhara Reddy's Cabinet from 2004 to 2009. She reportedly informed the probing agency CBI that the licenses were given to the cement companies as per the decision taken by the cabinet and that she did not violate any norms while issuing the orders. Sabitha Indra Reddy is the third minister questioned by the CBI in Jagan's assets case. Earlier, the CBI questioned Excise Minister Mopidevi Venkatramna and Roads and Buildings Minister Dharmana Prasada Rao, who were ministers for Infrastructure and Revenue respectively in YSR's cabinet. The CBI officials said that they might question Sabitha again, if needed.

Telangana Rashtra Samithi Siddipet MLA T Harish Rao on Thursday condemned Bharatiya Janata Party president G Kishan Reddy's criticism on the party on the Telangana issue. Talking to media persons, Harish Rao sought an explanation from the BJP State president as to why he has not submitted his resignation from elected post when the statehood agitation was going-on at its peak. Stating that NIzamabad MLA E Laxminarayana submitted his resignation from the elected post expressing solidarity to statehood agitation, he asked as to why Kishan Reddy went abroad during the agitation period. Harish Rao also demanded an explanation from the BJP, which claims that the Telangana state formation would be possible with the national parties, as to why it did not raised the Telangana issue during the ruling of NDA. Stating that the people of Telangana would not believe the promises of BJP, he asked the BJP to give explanation how it could achieve Telangana state without the support of regional parties. Meanwhile, Telangana Political Joint Action Committee chairman Prof M Kodandaram said that the JAC was conducting a survey over the by-election in Parakala Assembly constituency. Based on findings of the survey, he said that JAC would extend support to the party in the by-election. He asked the Telugu Desam Telangana Forum, which is targeting the JAC, to explain what it was doing to achieve the Telangana state.

Naga Chaitanya and Sunil will reprise the roles of Madhavan and Arya in the Telugu remake of the Tamil blockbuster 'Vettai'. Producer Bellamkonda Suresh reportedly first bought the film's remake rights, but later gave up for various reasons. So UTV Motion Pictures, the original producers, informed the media that they are dubbing the movie in Telugu with the title 'Bhale Tammudu.' Bellamkonda has jumped into the fray and has bought the remake rights from UTV and is making it with Naga Chaitanya as lead hero. He has roped in comedian turned hero Sunil to play the second lead. After Sunil delivered a hit with 'Poola Rangadu,' he is considered in the top league of Tollywood and hence the combination of Naga Chaitanya and Sunil is bound to be a good pair. Sunil will play the role of a timid cop, originally enacted by R Madhavan while Chaitanya will play the aggressive younger brother reprised by Arya. The Telugu version is to be directed by Dolly, who earlier directed 'Konchem Ishtam Konchem Kashtam'. The remake will go to the sets from June 26.

Nellore, May 17 (INN): Rajya Sabha member K Chiranjeevi on Thursday predicted that YSR Congress president and Kadapa MP Jagan Mohan Reddy would be arrested soon. Addressing an election rally at Kavali in Nellore district, Chiranjeevi said that the CBI would arrest Jagan for looting the State indiscriminately and resorting to illegal methods to accumulate properties. He said that those having links with criminals and misusing public funds have no moral right to seek votes of the people in the ensuing by-elections. Chiranjeevi also alerted the people to exercise their franchise judiciously in the by-elections and give priority for spotless persons. He criticised a the section of politicians for making industrialists scapegoats and pushing them behind the bars in connection with corruption cases. The Congress MP said that industrialists in the State were afraid of the CBI and going to other States in search of green pasture. He also came down heavily on some politicians who are slinging mud on others in order to get mileage in the elections.

HYDERABAD: An illegal kidney racket involving a nephrologist of a government hospital in the city was busted on Sunday with the arrest of two agents who lured a private employee from Medak to sell away his kidneys. According to police, the agents collect details of patients who are in need of kidney transplantation from various hospitals and strike a deal with them. They contact poor people who are in need of urgent money and lure them into a deal. Two such agents, Rajendra Prasad of Khairatabad in the city and Venkata Srinivas of Addanki in Prakasam district, were caught by the police with the help of a journalist of a TV channel which conducted a sting operation. Approached by decoy police for a kidney, the agents zeroed in on a man from Dubbaka in Medak district and offered him Rs 5 lakh if he donated his kidney. In need of money, the man agreed to be the donor. According to Punjagutta police sub-inspector K Ravi Kumar, the agents take prospective donors to the nephrologist, Dr Ramesh Chada, who works at a government hospital and also at Indu Super Specialty Hospital at Karkhana. `After the doctor gives a certificate that the person can become a donor, transplantation surgery is performed,'' the SI said. On Sunday, when the decoy police approached the doctor in his chambers, he recognised the journalist and, denying his involvement, rushed out of the hospital. Two of his assistants, PS Praveen and Prasanth, who are also allegedly working as agents, also fled the hospital. The two arrested agents had been luring donors with money for the past six months. The transplantation surgeries are being performed at a corporate hospital in the city, police said. Cases under AP Human Organs Transplantation Act, 1995 and Sec 420 of IPC were registered against racketeers and a hunt is on to nab other accused, the SI said.

''I knew him through the making of the movie Rakta Charitra. We have hardly met a few times. All the allegations against me are baseless,'' he told reporters here on Tuesday. Coming down heavily on his co-producer Natti Kumar who had alleged that Kalyan and Bhanu were involved in settling land disputes, Kalyan alleged that all the assets owned by Natti were illegal. 'Natti has been cheating Telugu film artistes and producers for a long time. A CBI enquiry should be ordered to probe his deals,' he said. Asked about the allegations made by Natti, Kalyan said that it was ''part of a big conspiracy. 'Kalyan wondered why Natti did not reveal facts to the bigwigs of the Telugu film industry if he (Kalyan) indeed had a close association with Bhanu. 'Natti said that he would provide evidence of my association with Bhanu within three days. But now 10 days have passed. Where is the evidence ?' he asked.

"Satyamev Jayate", the much-talked about TV show of Bollywood star Aamir Khan, in its launch episode was viewed by 90 million people and was the highest rated show with 4.1 television rating (TVR), according to Television Audience Measurement (TAM) data. The first episode, which talked about female foeticide, reached out to 2.67 crore viewers, reported TAM. This, extrapolated to an all India (including urban and rural viewers) reach with Indian Readership Survey (IRS), means that over 90 million viewers tuned in to watch the episode. "Satyamev Jayate" recorded a 4.1 TVR (TAM, All India that includes viewers over four years old) debuting ahead of "Kaun Banega Crorepati 5", which registered a 3.5 TVR in 2011. The data covered the entire Indian market, including cable and terrestrial homes, where only DD is beamed. The first episode of "Satyamev Jayate" was aired May 6 in eight languages on nine channels, including seven STAR TV network channels, ETV Telugu and national broadcaster DD1. The show has seen huge positive sentiment across viewers. It has generated much buzz on internet with "Satyamev Jayate" recording more popularity than its host Aamir on search engine Google India. It also trended on Twitter, occupying the top five slots out of 10. The show airs every Sunday at 11 a.m.

CBI arrests Matrix Prasad in Jagan assets case HYDERABAD: The moves against Jagan Mohan Reddy were put into high gear Tuesday with leading industrialist Nimmagadda Prasad , popular known as Matrix Prasad, being arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation Tuesday. Indian Railway Service (IRS) officer K V Brahmananda Reddy was also arrested along with Prasad, who had been named as accused no. 12 in the alleged illegal assets case of the Kadapa MP. Over the last few months, the CBI had been summoning Prasad for questioning and his arrest had been imminent, sources said. On Tuesday too, the CBI sleuths summoned both of them to the Dilkusha guest house and later announced their arrest. Both of them have been arrested on charges of criminal conspiracy, criminal breach of trust, criminal misconduct and various other sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act. Prasad allegedly invested about `500 crore in Jagan Mohan Reddy's companies. Further, many of the promoters in the companies floated by Jagan and Prasad are said to be the same. Prasad is the promoter of M/s Vanpic Projects Private Limited to which more than 15,000 acres of land was allotted in Prakasam district by the then Y S Rajasekhara Reddy government, allegedly in violation of norms. Further, several concessions were extended to Vanpic under the Stamps and Registration Act.
It is learn that the Rajya Sabha MP V Hanumantha Rao on Tuesday complained that he was receiving threatening calls from YSR Congress party president Jagan Mohan Reddy. Addressing an election meeting at Draksharamam in Ramachandrapuram assembly constituency in East Godavari district, Hanumantha Rao said that he has already lodged a complaint with the police over the threatening call. Stating that the caller has been identified as Subbarayudu from the USA, he said that the caller has warned him of serious consequences if he raises corruption issue of Jagan Mohan Reddy. However, VHR said that he would not cow down to such threats and continue his campaign in the by-elections. He appealed to the Election Commission of India to take steps to remove the picture of former chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy on Sakshi newspaper and TV channel as it violates Model Code of Conduct. He also urged Election commission to look into paid articles being carried out by Sakshi newspaper in favour of YSR Congress candidates. Hanumantha Rao wondered about Jagan Mohan Reddy's promise of bringing 'Rama Rajyam' in the State. He said such promises by an individual who looted thousands of crores of rupees from the State's exchequer sound ridiculous. He said that the arrest of Bhanu Kiran, the prime accused in the murder case of Rayalaseema factionist Maddelacheruvu Suri, has exposed the criminal links of Jagan Mohan Reddy with him.

It has been now confirmed that the famouse industrialist Nimmagadda Prasad in connection with the Jagan Case has been taken in to CBI Hands. CBI has on Tuesday taken into custody industrialist Nimmagadda Prasad in connection with the disproportionate assets case faced by the YSR Congress chief Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy. Prasad named 12th accused in the case, has invested nearly Rs. 504 crore in various companies owned by Jagan. He has invested Rs. 244 cr. in Bharati Cements, Rs. 100 cr. in Jagati Publications, Rs. 140 cr. in Sandoor Power and Rs. 200 cr. in Carmel Asia. It is being alleged that he got 15,000 acres of land in return for his investments in the Vanpic project from the then government headed by Jagan’s father Dr. Y S Rajasekhara Reddy. CBI has filed cases against Prasad under sections 120 B, 420, 409 and 477A of the Indian Penal Code. CBI sleuths who have been questioning Prasad since the past 3 days have taken him into custody on Tuesday. CBI has also taken into custody IRS official Brahmananda Reddy.
Hyderabad, May 14: Fight Master Sundar has lodged a complaint with the CID police against film producer Natti Kumar who has recently turned a witness of the police in the land settlement cases against Bhanu kiran, the alleged killer of faction leader Maddelacheruvu Suri. In his complaint, Sundar has charged Natti Kumar of collecting Rs. One crore from him, threatening in the name of Bhanu Kiran. However Natti Kumar has denied the allegation and said he was ready for any punishment if this allegation against him was proved. He has dismissed as a drama being enacted by producer C Kalyan, who indulged in several deals with Bhanu Kiran. He said facts would soon be known. It may be mentioned here that Natti Kumar made some very serious allegations against producer C Kalyan at a press conference. He has charged Kalyan of being the benami of Bhanu. He has also alleged that Bhanu has invested all his illegal earnings through Kalyan in the film industry. He has objected to Kalyan being continued in the Producers Council in view of the criminal cases lodged against him. He said industry big wigs like Dasari Narayana Rao should expel people like Kalyan from the film industry. However, there was no response from either Dasari Narayana Rao or other leaders of the film industry on Natti Kumar’s demands. It may be mentioned that Kalyan was seen moving closely with Dasari when the latter attended the premier show of Gabbar Singh recently.
Hyderabad, May 14: CBI which was entrusted with the duty of serving summons on the YSR Congress chief Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy in the assets case, has on Monday succeeded in handing over them, directing him to appear before the Special Court here on May 28. The CBI special court which has accepted the first charge-sheet of the CBI in which Jagan, his deputy Vijaya Sai Reddy and eleven others were named accused, has issued summons for them to appear before it on May 28. The court has also given the agency the responsibility of serving the summons on all the accused individually. As Jagan has been moving about in his hectic election campaign, CBI had a tough time catching up with him. On Sunday, a two-member team was dispatched to Kurnool where the Kadapa MP was touring, to serve the summons. The officers have found him in the residence of party leader Chennakesava Reddy in Yemmiganur and served the summons on him on Monday morning. As per the summons, Jagan has to appear before the CBI special court at 1030 am, on July 28. Though the Lotus Pond residence of Jagan was mentioned as his address in Hyderabad, CBI wanted to serve the summons on Jagan personally and finally succeeded in handing over the papers to him. CBI sleuths who reached Yemmiganur on Sunday itself, have waited till Monday morning as Jagan was in the midst of people, addressing election rallies. On Monday morning they went to Chennakeshava Reddy’s house looking like ordinary civilians and then identified themselves before serving the summons. Speculations are rife if Jagan would be arrested on the day he appears before the court. Though no one has any inkling of what would happen on the day he appears before the court, YSR Congress leadership appears to be prepared for that eventuality. It is learnt that Jagan has informed his top aides that his mother Vijayamma would continue the election campaign, if he was arrested and has requested them to guide her. Jagan’s associates are stating that arrest of their leader would mean sympathy for the family and a doom for the Congress party.

'Sushmita is in my house right now busy with preparations for my son's wedding. A distant relative of her in-law's got raided by IT department and it has nothing to do with us', he adds. Chiru demanded Jagan to come into public and speak about his misdeeds rather targeting honest leaders like him. Hyderabad, May 12 (INN):Telangana Rashtra Samithi Medak MP Vijayashanti on Saturday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party of trying to split the pro-Telangana votes by fielding its candidate from Parakala assembly constituency. Talking to media persons, Vijayashanti said that the conditions prevailing in Parakala constituency were different compared to Mahbubnagar constituency where the BJP candidate won the recent by-elections. She appealed to the BJP to drop its candidates and support the TRS in the by-elections. She expressed confidence that the Telangana Political Joint Action committee would support the candidature of TRS. To prevent split of votes in Parakala constituency, she said that the TP-JAC should take a favourable decision towards supporting the TRS in the elections. She said that the splitting of pro-Telangana votes would benefit the Seemandhra forces and expose disunity among the Telangana parties and leaders. Vijayashanti appealed to the State Government to extend assistance to those farmers, whose crops were damaged due to heavy rains at Dubbaka.

Hyderabad, May 12 (INN): Rajya Sabha member K Chiranjeevi on Saturday came down heavily on media for linking IT raids at her daughter Sushmita's in-law house in Chennai with him. Talking to media persons at his residence, Chiranjeevi alleged that a section of media has launched malicious campaign against him to tarnish his political image. He also ruled out rumours that he stored the money at his daughter's house to influencing the voters in the election campaign. Stating that IT raids at her in-laws house were common as they are involved in many businesses, Chiranjeevi advised the media to verify the facts before launching malicious campaign against the leaders. He said that there was no need for him to accumulate wealth illegally. Stating that freedom of press was important, he said that however, the journalists should not violate the privacy of individuals at any cost. He suggested the media not to resort to character assassination by leveling baseless charges against him. Chiranjeevi said that he was planning to file a defamation suit against Sakshi newspaper and TV channel for going ahead with baseless news against him and damaging his image. Stating that no criminal could escape from the law, he said that the law would take it course and would not spare anyone.

KADAPA: A 35-year-old woman, who got stuck between two boulders in the forest area of Sibyala village in Rayachoti mandal, was rescued after nearly seven hours of tireless efforts by officials in the wee hours of Thursday. The woman, Amaravathi of Kummarapalle village of Rayachoti mandal, is recovering form trauma and getting treatment for injuries on her legs at the Rayachoti Government hospital, when reports last came in. According to the police, revenue and fire personnel involved in the rescue act, Amaravathi got stuck between the boulders while trying to rescue a kid goat which got stuck between them. Amaravathi, as usual, had gone to herd her goats in forest area of Sibyala village. While returning home in the evening, she found that a kid was missing from the herd and went looking for it. She found that the kid got stuck between the boulders and tried to rescue it. But, she got herself struck between the same boulders. All her efforts to wrench free proved futile. Meanwhile, Amaravathi's husband Nageswar Reddy and other members of the family noticed that the goats have returned but not Amaravathi and went in search for her. Amaravathi, who heard her name being called, responded by shouting back and informed them where she was stuck. They found her stuck between the boulders. Nageswar Reddy, went back to the village and sought help of village head Ramprasad Reddy, explaining what had happened. Ramprasad Reddy alerted the police, revenue and fire personnel. Rayachoti tahsildar Chinnaiah, Urban CI Prakash Babu, fire officer Aswartha Naidu along with their men, rushed to the spot at around 9 pm. After initial efforts failed to free her, they engaged stone workers. They chipped away the boulders, taking care not to cause injuries to the woman. After nearly seven hours of tireless efforts, they rescued her at around 3:30 am.

Vijayawada: In the now infamous MJM hostel sex scandal, the police on Tuesday arrested three persons, former hostel warden Vijaya Kumari, Administrative Officer Ch Bhaskara Rao and MV Bhaskar Rao and produced them in the court. The court remanded them till 23rd of this month. The police said they need to arrest some more people. Based on an media reports on how innocent girls of MJM College hostel in Gannavaram were forced into commercial sex trade, Vijayawada Police Commissioner Madhusudhan Reddy had constituted six teams to probe the matter. The probing teams have collected the relevant information and evidence. They prima facie established that there was truth in the reports. Formal complaint on the matter was lodged by members of Child and Women Rights Council at the Gannavaram Police station. SI Janardhana Rao of Gannavaram PS said based on the information available with the police; some more arrests would be made.

Hyderabad: The west zone task force team of the city police on Friday arrested a car mechanic identified as Fareed Khan on charges of committing theft at Axis Bank ATM located at Road No. 1 in Banjara Hills. Police said that Fareed Khan worked for Khan Brothers, a mechanic shop at Masab Tank. As he had borrowed money from several people, he was under pressure to repay the loans and was also eager to go abroad in search of work. Deciding to steal as it was an easy means to gain money, he went to the ATM on the intervening night of April 24 and 25, closed the shutter from inside and disconnected the camera. Then he broke the ATM machine with a hammer and iron rod and stole Rs 5,10,300. He concealed the money in a polythene bag and hid the same in a dustbin near his workplace, the police said. The next day he collected the bag and spent some money. However, the cameras recorded him entering the ATM and police traced him out by Friday. An amount of Rs 4,74,500 was recovered from his house along with the hammer and iron rod he used to break the ATM machine, the police said. Fareed Khan was earlier arrested twice for theft of laptop and cell phones. He was handed over to Saifabad police for further action.

Hyderabad, May 11 (INN): Noted balladeer Gaddar on Friday resigned from the post of chairman of Telangana People's Front, an organisation that he himself floated, to achieve statehood for the region. Expressing total displeasure over the ongoing mode of agitation, Gaddar said that the Telangana State could not be achieved only through electoral process. He said statehood could not be achieved unless people from the region join the agitation. He stressed the need for changing the present mode of agitation. Talking to media persons after submitting his resignation, Gaddar announced that he would participate in the statehood agitation and other protests in public interest in individual capacity. 'Though I have submitted my resignation, I will cooperate with the parties and leaders who are sincerely involved in the statehood agitation,' he said. Gaddar said that the development of backward regions was possible only through the formation of smaller States. He reiterated that the smaller State could ensure good governance. Stating that he would begin his agitation from Somapeta in Srikakulam district, where the people are opposing the establishments of power plants, Gaddar said that he would continue his fight for the protection of mines at Anantapur and Bayyaram. Meanwhile, the office-bearers of Telangana People's Front informed that they would convene a meeting on May 20 to elect a new chairman. It may be mentioned Gaddar founded Telangana Praja Front on October 3, 2010 and a formal announcement was made on October 9. Since the Telangana Political Joint Action Committee maintained a close proximity with the Telagnana Rashtra Samithi, Gaddar's Front was viewed as an alternate. However, it failed to draw the attention that it desired.

Hyderabad, May 11 (INN): Telugu Desam Party MLA A Revanth Reddy on Friday dismissed reports that appeared in a section of media that he had links with Tara Chowdhary, who was arrested by city police in connection with a sex racket. Talking to media persons at the Telugu Desam Legislature Party office, Revanth Reddy rubbished the media reports as 'baseless' and 'far from truth' and challenged them to come up with proper evidence to substantiate their charges. 'It is not good for media to link my name with Tara Chowdhary and tarnish my political image,' he said. Revanth Reddy accused a section of media of resorting to character assassination by linking his name with Tara Chowdhary. He said that his political opponents have launched a malicious campaign against him after he raised his voice against the irregularities in the tenders of Polavaram irrigation project on River Godavari.
