Doyen of Telugu film industry late Akkieni Nageshwar Rao was known for his witty remarks, which he used to make at various film functions.
He used to make flirting comments with actresses of his granddaughter's age, while admitting that he had grown too old for them.
Quite often, he expressed his desire to romance and dance with heroines like Sneha and Tamannah, who acted with Nagarjuna and Naga Chaitanya.
Even when he was in peak of his acting as hero, ANR used to make such witty comments with heroines. Interestingly, he was also looking for brides among them for his son Nagarjuna.
One of them whom ANR wanted to make his daughter-in-law was Sumalatha, heroine of yesteryears Sumalatha, who is presently busy doing realty shows on television channels.
In a media interview, Sumalatha recalled how ANR broached the subject with her. During the shooting for one of the films, ANR asked her, albeit in a lighter vein, whether she was interested in marrying a boy, who was returning from abroad.
"He is handsome and suits your height and colour. Will you marry him?" Nageshwar Rao asked Sumalatha. He even told her to convey the proposal to her mother. And when she sought to know who the boy was, he finally said it was his son Nagarjuna, who was yet to make a debut into films.
Sumalatha did not disclose what she told Nageshwar Rao on the proposal, but she married a star hero – Ambarish of Kannada films. And another heroine became ANR's daughter-in-law. So, both of them had picked up the people they wanted!
